I'm Still Alive
This is proof of life. Small, but proof nonetheless.

Once Upon a Time
I Was a Sneakerhead (Updated)
When I graduated from college I spent a good deal of my paychecks on collecting sneakers. In particular, I became obsessed with Nike Dunk SB's. My brother turned me on to them when he got the Supreme SB's when they dropped back in September 2003. Later that same week he sold them at a 125% profit. I became amazed with a subculture that was so fanatical to the point that sneaker colorways and designs were regarded as high art.
I went on to collect abot 10 pairs of Dunks- SB releases (Futura, Bucks, Takashi's, etc.), Euro only (Yin Yangs) and Asia (Shima Shima) and a AM90 (DQM's). However, I loved the way the looked on my feet than in the box so I ended up wearing all of them but the Futuras and and the black yin yangs, both of which remain in deadstock condition. I could rock one for each day of the week. With their Zoom Air soles and solid construction they all proved to be comfortably durable and I was happy as a clam.
Unfortunately, or most people would say luckily, I eventually outgrew the itch to scour EBay or sneaker sites for the latest releases. I became content with the inventory I had. I guess I turned my attention to more adult matters like a 401k and planning some kind of career roadmap for the next 10 years. How boring...
Now, here I am circa two years later. Looking forward, time no longer seems to be entirely on my side. Looking back, I wonder how I got to where I am now and if there were a few missteps along the way. Most importantly (!?), looking down, my sneakers are growing a little rough around the edges. After seeing Turtle hunt down a hyperstrike release of some Nike "Fukiyamas" in the last episode of Entourage, I paid a long overdue visit to freshnessmag.com. There I got a glimpse of, IMHO, the best looking pair of Dunks since the Dunkle - the SBTG. They're an Asia only release so it's an even bigger tease. Regardless, I gotta get them at any cost... maybe saving for retirement can placed on hold for a month...
UPDATE: Copped 'em.
